Notes |
- There was an “Uncle Gooley" Bishir who was a professional fighter who lived in Lynchburg and taught Harold Bisher to fight. Gooley was probably Louie Bishir, son of William and Judith. Louie was a general painter in 1920 & 1930, single and living with his elderly parents in Clinton Co. Louis was in the Ohio National Guard during WW I. His service record is as follows:
Enlisted 31 May 1915, Hillsboro, Ohio.
Co D 1 Infantry ONG (Co D 147 Infantry) to Discharge Corporal 1 May 1917; Sergeant 24 Oct 1918. Meuse-Argonne; Ypres- Lys; Defensive Sector. American Expeditionary Forces 23 June 1918 to 23 March 1919. Honorable discharge 19 Apr 1919.
Louis received the Silver Star medal in 1937.
A record from the Dayton Home for Disabled Soldiers indicates his discharge was for severe chronic bronchitis. He was readmitted briefly in 1931.
Louie was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps from Nov 6, 1939 to July 24, 1941. [5]
