  • Notes
    • Served in the Civil War but returned uninjured. A J. F. Mendenhall appears in the rolls of two Arkansas military units: Marshall's Battery, Arkansas Light Artillery; and Sparks' Company, Arkansas Infantry. Jacob and Jennie lived in Greenwood,
Arkansas in 1870. By 1880 they had probably moved to Indian Territory (Oklahoma). Jacob may have gone with his brother, Davis, to Cowlington in Indian Territory, before moving to Colorado. In 1887, "in covered wagons and driving their
livestock," the family moved to Granado, Colorado. Jacob's obituary states that he continued to live in Colorado until 1912, when he moved to Coolidge, Kansas, where he and Jennie lived until her death in 1923. He was visiting his son, John, in
Washington state at the time of his death.
Jacob was a charter member of Granada Masonic Lodge No. 72. He was a mason for over fifty years.
