Death of Herbert L. Bishir
Herbert L. Bishir, a long time resident of this county died Monday October 1, at his home in Macksburg. Mr. Bishir lived in Winterset for many years and had a blacksmith shop on 2nd avenue, across the street from where Creger's poultry house is now located. He went to Macksburg in 1916 and continued to work at his trade there until three years ago when he was compelled to give up his shop because of ill health.
The deceased was a son of John and Elaine Bishir and was born at Glascow, June 8. 1855. He came to Winterset with his parents was a small child. He attended the public schools here and worked for some time in a blacksmith shop with his father. He was married to Mary McKibban November 8, 1875, and they had one child, Cochran Bishir, who died in Yakima, Washington in 1923.
Mr. Bishir spent two years in Nebraska, but he returned to Winterset where he continued to work at his trade until he moved to Macksburg. He has been a member of the Modern Woodmen lodge in Winterset for many years. He was also a member of the Baptist church. For more than 50 years he has been a faithful worker and a respected citizen.
He leaves besides his wife, one brother, Grant of Springdale, Montana; one sister, Mrs. Anna Erwin of Monroe and two half-sisters, Zella and Jennie of Seattle, Washington. The Rev. Mr. Ossman conducted the funeral services at the Bishir home in Macksburg and at the Tidrick funeral home in Winterset, Wednesday afternoon, October 3rd and burial was in the Winterset cemetery.
