  • Notes
    • George was the first Bobbitt be born in the State of Ohio two brothers and sister before him were born in Pittsylvania Co. Virginia.

He came to Ohio before 1874 and settled down in Green Twp., Clinton County, Ohio. He, we think rented a house on Clark Rd. just off Rt. 73 North of New Vienna and there he raised 11 children.

He probably followed his Uncle to Clinton County from Jackson County as his Uncle Thomas Bobbitt Jr., owned over two hundred acres of good farmland on what is now Steel Rd. The land was in Washington Twp and part in Green Twp. Thomas gave the land for the Cowen's Creek Baptist Church and was among the first to have family buried in the Cowan's Creek Cemetery.

George's first four children did not live but a short time after birth, they were interned in the original old section of the Cemetery. When the Cemetery was enlarged the children were moved to the location that is now marked by George and Martha's marker, which was provided by Max L. Bobbitt in 1999.

George worked as a hired hand for the farmers in the area and was gone many times for months at a time. It seemed that Martha always gave birth after he was home for a short time. In his later years he worked for only the farmers that were close to his home and in the town of New Vienna.

The family would walk about two miles to attend the Cowans Creek Church each Sunday. It is safe to say that the trip was also taken on other days of the week.

All of George's children live in and around Clinton County, Ohio and not further then Greene County, Ohio.

Some of his children are buried in Woodland Cemetery, Xenia, Ohio, and in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, New Vienna, Ohio.

George’s birth date is uncertain. The family bible was burned. [5]
