Husband of Catherine (Todd) Hardesty (1819-1858). They were married on October 12, 1837 in Clark County, Ohio. Robert was the father of at least six children with Catherine including: Mary Elizabeth (Hardesty) Hardy, Margaret (Hardesty) Bean, Nancy (Hardesty) Page, Corp. Joshua Hardesty, Sabra (Hardesty) Chance and James Todd Hardesty. Robert appears to have been married once before 1837. He had at least one son and one daughter with his first wife. I believe these to be: James Hardesty (born abt. 1825) whose birth name may have been Robert James Hardesty and Maria Hardesty (who married James Page). Maria was born in 1827.
Robert was the son of Joshua Hardesty and Ruth (Bell/Beall) Hardesty. Robert's mother, Ruth, appears to have been a descendant of the Scottish Beall family that includes Col. Ninian Beall, who came to Maryland in the 1600's. Her surname was supposedly changed from Beall to Bell because her name was pronounced "Bell."
