People in the picture from left to right:
Henry, Robert, Mary, Alvina, Martha, Annie, Clark, Adam, Ellen, Alice and Jim.
This was written on the back of the picture, again from the perspective of Alvina's descendents:
"This picture was taken in approx 1879 of Grandpa and Grandma Hoover where all 13 of their children were born (10 grew up to maturity). Grandma and Grandpa were married in 1851 (May 19th). Their log shanty was built in 1849 or 1850 when Grandpa got his Crown Grant from the Government of Canada as a United Empire Loyalist. When this picture was taken, mother was about 10 years old. She is standing next to her sister with the white apron on. Aunt Jane Auld was already married and not present when this picture was taken." |

Notes |
- Adam was part Swiss. The Hoovers were related to Herbert Hoover. Herbert's branch went down to Iowa when Adam and his brother went to Canada. His grandaughter, Norma, remembers him as being very nice.
Adam and his brother, Joe, came to Ontario when it was virgin forest and pioneered there. Norma Woods remembers her grandparents' log cabin in East Wawanosh Township. About 1900, most of the Hoovers went west to Edmunton, Alberta, Canada to homestead on 160 acres.
RESEARCH NOTES: The Trevelyn (actually Treleaven) family were cousins to the Hoovers. Norma knew some of them when she was young. Thomas Lawson Treleaven was the photographer who took the portrait of Adam and Eleanor Hoover.
